Motivation is a lie…how to effectively begin and reach your goals!

One step at a time.

We all have goals we want to reach—whether it’s a weight loss goal, a business goal, or simply a goal to be more present in our lives. Many of us believe that if we were just motivated enough, we could finally achieve them.

But here’s the truth: motivation is unreliable.

If we wait to feel motivated, it will only last as long as a “good day.” And for most of us, good days come and go. Sometimes they depend on how we feel physically, whether or hair looks just right, or even whether our kiddo gave us a big kiss that morning.

What actually creates change isn’t motivation—it’s dedication and routine.

Think about it: we brush our teeth and get dressed every day not because we feel motivated, but because it’s part of our routine. It’s consistent, and it doesn’t depend on our mood.

Reaching a goal works the same way. It starts with one small, attainable step that you repeat until it becomes part of your routine.

If your goal is to run a marathon, you wouldn’t start by running 9 miles on day one. That’s a quick path to burnout—and it often triggers that inner voice that says, You never finish what you start.”

Instead, you start small. Maybe that looks like tying your shoes, running for 5 minutes, and walking for 10. Over time, you build momentum. And when you’re ready, you take the next step.

Most importantly, be kind to yourself in the process.

Goals help us grow, and growth can feel uncomfortable—even scary at times. But it also brings a sense of accomplishment and confidence that builds over time.

So start small. Stay consistent. And take it one step at a time.
